Masjid Ar-Rahman
Masjid Ar-Rahman, located in Pulau Gajah, Kelantan, is more than a mosque—it’s a testament to spiritual dedication and global design influences. Built between 2016 and 2018 to accommodate a growing congregation, this mosque blends traditional Malay architecture with exquisite elements from Yemen, Morocco, Indonesia, and Turkey. From its century-old carved doors to its ceiling inscribed with Quranic calligraphy, every detail whispers devotion.
Searching for a soulful and architectural marvel in Kelantan? Let Masjid Ar-Rahman fill your senses and spirit.
History & Vision
Built with Purpose and Grace
As the previous mosque in Pulau Gajah became too small, the decision was made in early 2016 to build a new structure spanning 0.8 hectares—big enough for around 1,000 worshippers. The construction took about two years and was fully funded by private donors, led by an individual traveler whose global journeys inspired the mosque’s eclectic design.
Artisans of Devotion
- 10 Indonesian artisans hand-carved over 90% of the mosque’s decorative elements
- 50% of the carvings are devoted to Quranic verses
- Every door, pillar, ceiling, and wall tells a story rooted in faith and cultural exploration
Architectural Details & Cultural Fusion
A Unique Blend of Global Islamic Styles
- Yemeni-inspired entry doors
- Maghrebi-designed Imam’s pillar and prayer area
- Geduk (ceremonial drum) from Indonesia
- Circular ceiling inscribed with Quranic verses in Turkish design
Each item was sourced, curated, and contributed with care—some being antique and handcrafted, including the Moroccan prayer door said to be hundreds of years old.
Symbolic Design from Above
From aerial view, the mosque layout resembles a small island, underscoring its spiritual essence—peaceful, set apart, and sacred.
