The Best Beaches in Port Dickson Malaysia from Official

Port Dickson (PD) is a popular beach destination among local and regional tourists. A peaceful town for a short weekend retreat where city dwellers can just slow down, relax and eat (of course!). PD is a lovely resort community in the state of Negeri Sembilan. With its inviting beaches and exclusive resorts along with access to an historic fort and forest reserve, this is an ideal layover between Kuala Lumpur and Malacca.

Life in Port Dickson centers on the beaches, especially Blue Lagoon and Teluk Kemang. This is where most of the accommodation is found, ranging from all-inclusive resorts to private bungalows. Activities on the beach include snorkeling, water skiing, and windsurfing. It’s also possible to charter a boat from the yacht club and spend a day exploring more remote portions of the coastline.

Away from the beaches, Cape Rachado Forest Reserve is a major attraction encircling the cape where the Portuguese built their 16th century lighthouse. Ascend to the observation deck for panoramic views of the sea and the not-so-distant coast of Sumatra. Traveling to Port Dickson is relatively easy since Kuala Lumpur is only an hour’s drive away. The resorts here are a popular weekend retreat for locals, but the atmosphere is relatively quiet mid-week.

Bagan Pinang Beach

Bagan Pinang is a popular beach stretch between 2nd and 4th mile of Port Dickson. A relatively quiet location, the sea waters are gentle and shallow, making it ideal and safe for children to swim. Popular with families, the public facilities are well maintained, including picnic tables with chairs, playgrounds, fitness circuits and a paved walkway lined with gazebos.

At center portion, a small island populated by a dense cluster of mangrove trees can be reached on foot at low tide; this when local fishermen rummage the islet’s shoreline for clams and crabs. Bagan Pinang also offers delicious culinary opportunities, including food trucks and restaurants along the main road that serve street-style seafood cuisine.

Pantai Cahaya Negeri

Pantai Cahaya Negeri is one of PD’s largest beaches, situated on a vast coastal strip between 5th and 6th mile of Port Dickson. It has one of the highest densities of family hotels and resorts within the area, owing to its natural beauty, wealth of public facilities and good infrastructure.

The main feature along the beach is an artificial cape that houses a recreational park lined with picnic gazebos. The cape also links to a small mangrove island called ‘Pulau Burung’ by a wooden bridge, although visitors may stroll there on foot at low tide. A boardwalk on the island leads to a platform where a watchtower provides a panoramic view of PD’s coastline. Some of the popular activities here include water sports, boating, fishing, camping and berbeques.

Tanjung Gemuk Beach

Tanjung Gemuk is a beach destination 2km north of Port Dickson along the coast, just a short distance away by car from PD town. Relatively small and undeveloped compared to other beaches, its primary attraction is the sea turtles that land here between April and September annually. This is the only spot in PD where wild turtles come to nest their eggs naturally.

<p>Glory Beach Resort manages the collection of eggs in a small hatchery on their hotel grounds, while promoting it as a tourist attraction. When the eggs hatch, hotel guests may participate in the release of baby turtles at night. The beach is served by a recreational park equipped with gazebos, walkway, benches and a small playground.

Pantai Purnama

Pantai Purnama is a beach destination at 9th mile of Port Dickson, isolated from view along the main road through PD but accessible through residential areas. The name translates to ‘Moonlight’ in English, refering to its peaceful environment ideal for gazing at the moon at night. The beach itself begins from the base of Teluk Kemang Observatory, but the coastal strip lies uninterrupted till reaching Blue Lagoon.

Usually uncrowded, even during weekends, Pantai Purnama is equipped with camping, shower and barbeque facilities, with a single canteen that serves local food. The secluded atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for quiet family getaways or a romantic rendezvous among couples. The sea waters are also clear and gentle, with pretty rock formations that reveal themselves at low tide.
