Senikome Peng Heng: A Cultural Gem

    Senikome Peng Heng, Genting Highlands

Located in Genting Highlands, Senikome Peng Heng is a vibrant cultural hub celebrating the rich traditions, arts, and flavors of Malaysia’s East Coast. Visitors can immerse themselves in interactive exhibitions, traditional performances, local crafts, and authentic delicacies, making this a must-visit attraction for culture lovers.

    Introduction

Nestled inside First World Plaza, the center is designed as a living museum that preserves and showcases the cultural richness of Pahang, Terengganu, and Kelantan. The name “Senikome” means “Our Art” in the Pahang dialect, while “Peng Heng” is a historical reference to the East Coast region dating back to the Ming Dynasty. Together, they symbolize pride in art, tradition, and community.

The East Coast region of Malaysia refers to the eastern seaboard of Peninsular Malaysia that faces the South China Sea. It is made up of three states: Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang. This region is known for its serene beaches, fishing villages, lush rainforests, and strong preservation of traditional Malay culture. Compared to the bustling West Coast, the East Coast offers a quieter pace of life, with deep cultural roots, distinctive dialects, and practices such as batik and songket weaving. It is also home to famous islands like Redang, Perhentian, and Tioman, as well as highland retreats like Genting Highlands and Cameron Highlands.

    History

Established by Resorts World Genting, the center was envisioned as a hub to preserve East Coast traditions and make them accessible to visitors. Historically, the East Coast has been a cradle of Malay culture, influenced by centuries of trade with China, India, and Indonesia.

Artifacts on display include songket textiles woven with gold threads, tenun fabrics with intricate motifs, and Orang Asli crafts that highlight indigenous artistry. Exhibitions also trace the evolution of Wayang Kulit shadow puppetry and Gamelan music, both of which have been adapted uniquely in Malaysia.

Wayang Kulit is a traditional form of shadow puppetry originating from Java and Bali in Indonesia. In a performance, intricately carved leather puppets are manipulated by a puppeteer (dalang) behind a linen screen, with light projecting their shadows to the audience. The stories often dramatize episodes from Hindu epics such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata, while also incorporating uniquely Javanese characters and themes. Wayang Kulit combines ritual, moral lessons, and entertainment, and has been recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

    Guided Tours

Friendly staff conduct guided tours that explain the symbolism behind artifacts and performances, enriching the visitor experience.

    Visitor Facilities

Senikome Peng Heng offers a reading corner, rest areas, and family‑friendly spaces. Accessibility is ensured through elevators and ramps, making it convenient for elderly visitors and those with mobility needs.

    Highlights

    Traditional Art Exhibitions

Visitors can admire songket weaving, historically reserved for royalty, and tenun fabrics, which symbolize ethnic identity and rituals. Authentic paintings and Orang Asli artifacts provide insight into indigenous lifestyles.

Songket weaving is a traditional Malaysian handwoven textile art that involves inserting gold or silver threads into the base fabric to create shimmering decorative patterns. The technique is performed on a traditional two‑pedal floor loom called a kek. The metallic threads appear to float over the colorful woven background, producing intricate motifs inspired by nature such as flowers, birds, and bamboo shoots. Historically, songket was worn by royalty and dignitaries, symbolizing wealth and prestige. Today, it is widely used in ceremonial clothing, weddings, festive occasions, and state functions, and has been recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

    Batik Canting Demonstrations

Artisans demonstrate the canting technique, where wax is applied to fabric before dyeing. This creates intricate floral and geometric designs, reflecting centuries of craftsmanship.

    Wayang Kulit Displays

Shadow puppetry is showcased in a dedicated room, where carved leather puppets come alive under the guidance of a dalang (puppet master). The stories often draw from the Ramayana but have evolved into uniquely Malaysian narratives.

    Attractions

    Performing Arts and Cultural Showcases

Regular performances highlight East Coast traditions. Joget Gamelan, a classical dance accompanied by metallophones and drums, illustrates its royal Pahang origins. Folk music sessions feature instruments like the rebab and bamboo flute, creating a lively atmosphere.

    Interactive Games and Activities

Guests can participate in traditional childhood games such as congkak, a board game using marbles, and batu seremban, a hand‑eye coordination game with small stones.

    GameDescription
CongkakA two‑player board game using marbles or seeds, played on a carved wooden board with 14 small holes and 2 larger storehouses. It develops mental arithmetic and strategy.
Batu SerembanA tossing‑and‑catching game with five small stones or beanbags. Players throw one piece in the air while picking up others, testing hand–eye coordination and rhythm.
Lompat GetahA jumping game where players leap over a chain made of linked rubber bands, raised higher each round. It emphasizes agility and balance.
Galah PanjangA team game played on a court with lines. One team defends while the other tries to cross without being tagged, requiring speed and teamwork.

    Souvenir Shopping

Heritage‑inspired souvenirs include textiles, pewterware, and handcrafted goods, making meaningful keepsakes that reflect Malaysia’s artistry.

Pewterware refers to articles made from pewter, a malleable metal alloy traditionally composed of tin with small amounts of copper and antimony. In Malaysia, pewter has a particularly rich heritage due to the country’s tin mining history. The industry flourished in the 19th century, especially in Perak and Selangor, and led to the founding of Royal Selangor, today the world’s largest pewter manufacturer. Pewterware items include household goods, ornaments, jewelry, and ceremonial objects, crafted through casting, filing, polishing, and engraving techniques. The silvery sheen and durability of pewter have made it popular for both decorative and functional use since the 18th century.

    Culinary Experiences

The in‑house café serves authentic East Coast dishes. Nasi Kerabu, with its distinctive blue rice and herbal accompaniments, is a signature highlight. Keropok Lekor, a fish cracker snack from Terengganu, is another must‑try. Desserts like Bubur Cha Cha provide a sweet ending.

    Local Beverages

Refreshing drinks at Senikome Peng Heng reflect Malaysia’s tradition of using natural herbs and fruits. Visitors can enjoy lemongrass tea and pandan infusions for aromatic refreshment.

Another highlight is Asam Boi, a preserved plum often blended into drinks with lime or honey. It delivers a tangy, slightly salty flavor that balances sweetness and is especially popular in Malaysia’s East Coast. This beverage is both cooling and invigorating, making it a perfect complement to the rich East Coast cuisine.

    Conclusion

Senikome Peng Heng is a cultural gem that bridges tradition and modernity. By showcasing the arts, crafts, and cuisine of Malaysia’s East Coast, it provides visitors with a holistic understanding of the nation’s heritage. Whether you are drawn to interactive workshops, traditional performances, or authentic food, this destination promises a memorable journey.

For travelers seeking a blend of culture and adventure, Senikome Peng Heng in Genting Highlands is truly a must‑visit attraction.

    History

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! has captivated audiences worldwide since the early 20th century, when Robert Ripley first showcased unusual facts and artifacts. The Genting Highlands branch opened as part of SkyAvenue’s entertainment expansion, bringing together multiple themed attractions under one roof. Over time, it has grown to include Ripley’s Odditorium, Jurassic Research Center, Zombie Outbreak, 4D Trick Art Museum, Infinity Room, Eagle Landing Zipline, and GP Meta Kart, making it one of the most diverse indoor adventure hubs in Malaysia.

Robert Ripley (LeRoy Robert Ripley, 1890–1949) was an American cartoonist, entrepreneur, and amateur anthropologist best known as the creator of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! — a newspaper panel series, radio program, and television show that showcased odd facts, unusual artifacts, and bizarre human feats from around the world. His work popularized the concept of documenting curiosities and inspired the establishment of Ripley’s Odditoriums worldwide.

    Highlights

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium

Housing over 300 exhibits, the Odditorium is a surreal museum of strange artifacts, quirky inventions, and bizarre human records. Visitors can marvel at unusual art crafted from everyday objects, explore collections of rare curiosities, and enjoy interactive displays that spark both laughter and amazement.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is an American franchise founded by Robert Ripley in 1918. It began as a newspaper cartoon panel showcasing bizarre facts, oddities, and unusual human feats that seemed almost unbelievable. Over time, it expanded into books, radio shows, television programs, films, and a chain of museums known as Odditoriums. Today, Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is operated by Ripley Entertainment Inc., based in Orlando, Florida, and includes more than 80 attractions worldwide, drawing millions of visitors annually.

    Visitor Facilities

The Odditorium is self‑guided, allowing guests to explore at their own pace. Facilities include photo zones, multilingual exhibit descriptions, and easy access to dining options within SkyAvenue Mall.

    Jurassic Research Center

Step back 65 million years into a world ruled by dinosaurs. Featuring over 200 scientifically accurate life‑sized models, the Jurassic Research Center immerses visitors in the survival stories of colossal reptiles. From hatching eggs to towering T‑Rex replicas, the center offers both educational and thrilling encounters.

Tyrannosaurus rex (T‑Rex) is a species of large theropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, about 69 to 66 million years ago. Known as one of the most formidable carnivores, T‑Rex measured up to 12 meters (39 feet) long, weighed between 4,000 and 7,000 kilograms, and had powerful hind limbs, a massive skull, and short forelimbs with two clawed digits. Its name translates from Latin as “king of the tyrant lizards,” and it is considered one of the last non‑avian dinosaurs before the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event.

Theropod dinosaurs are a major group of saurischian (lizard‑hipped) dinosaurs characterized by hollow bones, three‑toed limbs, and typically carnivorous diets. They first appeared in the Late Triassic period, around 231 million years ago, and included some of the largest terrestrial predators such as Tyrannosaurus rex and Giganotosaurus. Over evolutionary time, certain theropods developed feathers, and modern birds are considered living descendants of small theropod dinosaurs.

    Cretaceous–Paleogene Extinction Event:

Occurred ~100.5 to 66 million years ago, marking the final epoch of the Cretaceous.Happened ~66 million years ago, marking the boundary between the Cretaceous and Paleogene periods.

Peak of dinosaur diversity, including species like Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops.Extinction of non‑avian dinosaurs and ~75% of Earth’s species, including many marine organisms.
Evolution of mammals and birds began to diversify during this time.Mammals and birds survived and later became dominant groups in the Paleogene.

    Wildlife and Fossils

Displays include fossil replicas and interactive panels explaining extinction theories. Children can engage with hands‑on exhibits, while adults appreciate the detailed paleontological reconstructions.

StegosaurusRecognizable by its back plates and tail spikes, featured in educational panels about defense mechanisms.

For thrill‑seekers, the Zombie Outbreak attraction plunges visitors into a post‑apocalyptic maze filled with undead surprises. Designed to test courage and quick thinking, this immersive experience combines theatrical effects, soundscapes, and live actors to create a heart‑pounding adventure.

Zombie is commonly defined as a will‑less, speechless human believed in voodoo traditions to have died and been supernaturally reanimated, or more broadly as a fictional undead creature resembling the “walking dead.” In modern usage, it can also describe a dull, apathetic person or, metaphorically, entities like failing businesses or infected computers.

    Safety and Accessibility

The attraction is supervised by staff, with clear safety guidelines. Younger children may find it intense, but teens and adults often rate it as one of the most exciting highlights.

    4D Trick Art Museum

Visitors can pose creatively with murals that depict exotic landscapes, whimsical creatures, and fantastical scenes. It’s a paradise for photography enthusiasts and social media sharing.

    Cultural Festivals and Art

The museum occasionally hosts themed exhibitions tied to Malaysian festivals, blending local culture with international artistry.

    Infinity Room

A dazzling mirror maze, the Infinity Room creates endless reflections and illusions. Guests wander through corridors of light and glass, experiencing disorientation and wonder in equal measure.

    Eagle Landing Zipline

For those craving physical adventure, the Eagle Landing Zipline offers a thrilling ride across SkyAvenue’s atrium. Suspended high above the crowd, it provides panoramic views of the mall and surrounding highlands.

    GP Meta Kart

This indoor go‑kart track combines speed and fun, allowing visitors to race in a safe, controlled environment. It’s especially popular among families and groups of friends.

With attractions ranging from oddities and dinosaurs to zombies and optical illusions, it caters to diverse interests and age groups. Combined with the natural beauty and cultural richness of Genting Highlands, it stands as a must‑visit destination in Malaysia for families, thrill‑seekers, and explorers alike.

Snow World Genting Highland Resort | Dinginnya Parah Sumpah !

Edbert and Elmer youtube.com/watch?v=WvWWX-1NFZk

The space is illuminated by giant LED screens on walls and ceilings, displaying festive and seasonal animations that enhance the lively atmosphere. Within this vibrant setting lies BigTop Video Games Park, a dedicated arcade offering carnival-style and retro gaming experiences that complement the thrill rides of Skytropolis.

The park also introduced innovative attractions such as The Void, a hyper-reality VR center that was the largest of its kind outside North America and the first in Asia. Although The Void has since closed globally, it marked Genting as a pioneer in immersive entertainment. Other highlights include the Eagle Landing Zipline, stretching 200 meters across the indoor park and recognized as the longest zipline in a shopping mall in Malaysia. Resorts World Genting invested over RM300 million into this revamp, bringing back 15 classic rides from the former outdoor theme park with new designs, alongside seven cutting-edge rides such as Power Surge, Disco!, Sky Tower, Spin Crazy, and Balloon Race.

    Visitor Experience and Facilities

Most rides at Skytropolis are priced at RM10 per ride on weekdays and RM15 on weekends and holidays, with a preview pass available for RM60 that grants access to general rides. However, this pass does not include admission to premium attractions like The Void, the Eagle Landing Zipline, or individual games at BigTop Video Games Park. Tickets can be purchased at counters, self-service kiosks, or online through Resorts World Genting’s official website.

The combination of family-friendly arcades at BigTop, adrenaline-pumping rides at Skytropolis, and unique attractions like the zipline ensures that visitors of all ages find something memorable. With expectations of over 7,000 paying guests daily, Resorts World Genting has positioned BigTop and Skytropolis Funland as central pillars of its entertainment offerings, blending nostalgia, innovation, and adventure under one roof.

    Highlights

    Circus-Themed Atmosphere

Explore everything you need to know about this top destination.

    The Void, Genting Highlands: Overview

    What is The VOID?

In 2015, a partnership exploring Tesla Field tracking for untethered VR productions accidentally opened a transfinite portal across an infinity of parallel dimensions – the Omniverse – and took its first, if initially tragic, step into the VOID.

The mission of the VOID soon crystalized around our Security Division’s motto: Itinerantur, Inquisitio, Praesidium – Travel, Inquiry and Protection. We travel across the Omniverse and strive to understand its meaning, all while protecting our own reality from possible threats from other dimensions.

Now after years of private research and development, our Rapture® Rigs have been certified safe for commercial travel into select parallel dimensions. VOID Travelers can now step beyond their reality into any one of an infinity of possibilities: places where dreams and nightmares have substance, hopes and fears can be touched and worlds without number await to be experienced and explored.

Still how more astonishing, humbling and troublesome was it for us to discover that others have walked these paths before us. Our hesitant footfalls into this vast Omniverse stumble into paths already trodden by others of our kind … immortal horrors and everlasting splendors…

    How To Prepare

Each experience accommodates a maximum of four people. Guests must be at least 10 years of age and a minimum height of 4ft (122cm). Arrive ten minutes early to check-in. All guests must sign a waiver before entry. If under the legal age of 18, a parent or guardian must sign the safety waiver on your behalf while purchasing tickets either online or in the location.

    What To Expect

The VOID is a whole-body, fully immersive experience, with you, your friends and family physically inside the action. We recommend all group members arrive at least ten minutes before your scheduled time. Latecomers may not be guaranteed their booked time slot. Due to popularity and demand, there may be periodic waits. Please allow up to one hour for your end-to-end experience.

The Void, Genting Highlands, Malaysia: More Exciting Games

    History

    The Void Omniverse

The Omniverse is an infinity of dimensions moving simultaneously in parallel through the Bulk. It is, in short, everything that has ever been, is or will be … as well as everything that could have been, could now be or could ever be in the future.

    Rapture Headset

The first VOID Travelers used a VR-modified bike helmet to visit other dimensions, but the modern Rapture Headset blends high-resolution graphics and 3D audio into a cool and comfortable design.

    Rapture Haptics

The VOID Rapture Gear backpack contains everything a Dimensional Traveler needs. The latest version is upgraded with state-of-the-art hand tracking and full-torso haptics, making for the most immersive virtual experience.

    High Accuracy Props

Interacting with objects in other dimensions often requires use of a prop. The VOID has experimented with various prop designs over the years, but modern props use high-accuracy electronic tracking for the smoothest and most responsive simulation.

    Rapture Blaster

THE VOID offers protection to travelers who venture into more dangerous frontiers. With precision tracking, force-feedback haptics and support for numerous firing modes, the Rapture Blaster is the best protection a Dimensional Traveler can have.

Genting Highlands (Resorts World Genting) Walking Tour – Indoor Theme Park and beyond

A walk in Genting Highlands from Theme Park Hotel to First World Hotel, introducing more of Skytropolis, the newly renovated and only theme park in Genting Highlands currently. More details about Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park Genting Highlands are shown on the ‘funfair’ type of games that young and old like to play. I also went up to Cyber World where there’s many PC LAN gaming for the more sophisticated teens and young adults.

During our time in Genting Highlands, it was towards late January 2020, where the Wuhan novel coronavirus was rampant in China, especially in Wuhan itself, so you could see some people wearing a surgical mask as a precautionary measure. In Genting Highlands, there are mostly Malaysians from many states in East and West Malaysia. It is a popular tourist attraction for locals especially, it is common for locals to drive hours up the mountain. In this period, it is also Chinese New Year, so there are apparently more people taking a short vacation due to the long public holiday.

Genting Highlands is renovating an outdoor theme park too, and it’s expected to complete by the late 2020, else, 2021. While in the SkyWay, the cable car ride, we could see the outdoor theme park clearly, it’s probably about 80% completed. The SkyWay cable car leads to some temples where people like to pray for good luck and fortune before trying their luck in SkyCasino, it also leads to Genting Highlands Premium Outlets, where you could find many many branded brands boutiques where they usually sell out-of-season stocks at a fraction of their usual price.

I hope you enjoy walking with me, as much as I enjoyed filming while taking a leisure me-time exploratory walk while the kids were sleeping. Pls bear with me if I had stayed in a particular place for too long or passed by a place too quickly. Feel free to ask me any questions and I’ll try to answer asap! 🙂 Last but not least, pls SUBSCRIBE to my channel for more updates. Ciao, Yana
