The Bukit Nanas Forestry Reserved is located in front of Jalan Raja Chulan Kuala Lumpur and not far from the Telekom Museum. By car, drive up the hill at KL Tower and pay for the entrance fee and car park; admission to the forest reserve is free.

By Train: Take the Kelana Jaya Line LRT and stop at the Dang Wangi Station or take the KL monorail and disembark at the Bukit Nanas station. Kuala Lumpur began when Raja Abdullah, a member of the Selangor Royal Family and Chieftain of Klang, hired a Chinese prospector to venture upstream from Klang to open new tin mines in the Ampang area. Botak Chin was born in Kuala Lumpur on 3 March 1951 to a family of 10 siblings. His father worked with Malayan Railways, and as a child he lived at the Malaysian Railway quarters adjacent to the Caltex station on Jalan Ipoh in Kuala Lumpur. He studied at a Chinese vernacular primary school and then went on to attend the Methodist Boys’ Secondary School in Sentul until Form 3. After dropping out from school, Botak Chin worked as a fishmonger at the market at Jalan Tun Ismail (formerly known as Maxwell Road). After Botak Chin mother’s death, he often spent time away from home, with his friends who were the local hoodlums that eventually led him to commit petty crimes.

He joined a gang named Gang 360 (Sak Pak Lok), and he was impressed by the firearms possessed by the gang members. On 19 April 1969, Botak Chin and two of his friends took part in a robbery for the first time. At the age of 18, Botak Chin proudly owns his first firearm, a .22 caliber revolver. He then formed his own gang shortly thereafter and proceeded to engage in robbery sprees.

On 12 May 1980, Botak Chin, who was 27 years old at that time, faced 3 charges under the Internal Security Act at the Kuala Lumpur High Court. The News Straits Times reported that he denied possessing firearms or ammunition, as well as ownership of two pouches of bullets which were found in his pockets during the sawmill incident. He claimed that he did not know how they got into his pockets.

However, he pleaded guilty to the ISA charges and became the first Malaysian to do so. He was sentenced to death by the High Court in the same year. On 1 January 1981, while on death row, he made an unsuccessful attempt to escape from his cell in Pudu Prison; he stabbed several prison wardens but was seriously injured during the struggle. Botak Chin was finally executed at 3 a.m. on 11 June 1981, in the same prison. Ironically, none of the charges were murder; he was sentenced to death solely for the possession of firearms, a capital offence.

Before Botak Chin’s execution, his lawyer appealed to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council for a retrial. The appeal was accepted, but Botak Chin was still found guilty. He appealed to the Supreme Court of Malaysia and Pardons Board, both of which were constituted under the Federal Constitution, but both organizations rejected the appeals.

The Perdana Botanical Garden, also known as Taman Tasik Perdana or Lake Gardens, is situated in the Heritage Park of Kuala Lumpur. It has always been a part of the green lung of the city and has a history of over a decade. Originally created as part of a recreational park but planted with collections of tropical plants, the garden has been rehabilitated and turned into a Botanical Garden.

Laman Perdana

In the middle of the main gardens, where the three main roads coming from the three entrances meet, there is a square where events and activities were carried out. It is a central area and located close to the boathouse and with ample space, it is a perfect area for gatherings. This is the Laman Perdana. The rehabilitation efforts have transformed the square into an area for majestic trees. Adansonia and Moringas, planted as mature trees gave quite a surreal feel to the area. One can imagine being transpor ted to the land in Africa where they came from.

Cycad Island

The lake has a small Island in the larger water body, and it has two clumps of bamboos growing on it giving a most scenic look to the lake. The other island, which serves as a short cut to the area across the lake has two concrete bridges crossing the narrow water bodies around it. A cycad collection has been started on this Island giving it a new name, “The Cycad Island”. The collection of species of cycads and succulents, although starting small will continue to be expanded with more local and imported species.

Begitulah serba sedikit mengenai sejarah Taman Tasik Perdana KL ini yang sekarang ini dikenali sebagai Taman Botani Perdana KL.
