  • Kenyir Elephant Conservation Village: A Sanctuary of Hope

Kenyir Elephant Conservation Village: A Sanctuary of Hope

    Kenyir Elephant Conservation Village

Experience the beauty and compassion at Kenyir Elephant Conservation Village (KECV), an eco-sanctuary nestled beside Tasik Kenyir, where orphaned elephants are nurtured with care in their native habitat. With only 10% of its 256-hectare site developed, KECV promises a rare glimpse into elephant rehabilitation in harmony with lush Malaysian rainforest.

Ready to witness gentle giants roam free? Plan your visit to KECV today—discover wildlife conservation in action and be part of something meaningful.

    Why Visit

A Safe Haven for Orphaned Elephants

Built in 2012 on 256 hectares of protected land, Kenyir Elephant Conservation Village is a conservation effort adjacent to Tasik Kenyir, Terengganu. It was created to rescue and rehabilitate elephants affected by habitat loss, ivory trade, and human conflict.

Only 10% of the land is developed—leaving the remaining 90% as untouched jungle to maintain ecological balance and provide elephants with a natural playground.

A Story of Survival & Care

Many of the 18 resident elephants at KECV were orphaned, displaced, or rescued from village encounters. Each elephant lives in harmony with nature and undergoes daily care under trained mahouts and professional veterinarians. Bathing occurs 6–7 times daily to help regulate body temperature, especially during Malaysia’s heat.

    Elephant Experience

    Education & Awareness

Visitors learn the behavior, history, and challenges of elephant conservation through interactive exhibits, scheduled walks, and hands-on educational programs.

    Jungle Exploration

Each evening, the elephants are released into a 300-acre forest in controlled conditions—a majestic sight that encourages natural behavior and healing.

    Cooling Off & Bath Time

Elephants are bathed frequently due to their unique physiology. Since their ears help regulate temperature, water immersion is essential to keep them cool.
