Langkawi Elephant Adventure Rides
Elephant Ride Langkawi ~ You thought Langkawi doesn’t have elephants? Well, it’s a fact that in the whole of Malaysia the total number of elephants have depleted over time, and only some 2,000 elephants are now there in the wild.
This is a miniscule number when you compare it with the neighboring country like Thailand where there are more than 1200 elephants only in private captivity. Despite that Langkawi has created opportunities for the elephant lovers.
An Asian species elephant called Lasah was brought to the island in 2006 and since then adventure elephant rides are offered from the Oriental Village located in the Burau Bay / Pantai Kok area. If you are heading for a Cable Car ride or a Duck Tour from the Oriental Village, it’s a great opportunity to combine an elephant ride to enhance your experience in Langkawi.
Lasah is no ordinary elephant, in fact she is a superstar. Lasah has featured in several feature films including in the Hollywood movie “Anna & The King” that was partially shot in Langkawi and also in several tele films. She has appeared in many public performances including in magic shows and entertainment programs in international zoos.

About Elephant riding
Elephant riding is very rare but exciting activity in Langkawi. Once you get to hire your elephant, it will take you onto the green forest trails, mangrove forests and to Oriental Village on Langkawi Island. Reach the foothills of Mount Machincang – the breathtaking center spot to Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark.
You can ride your elephant into the dense jungles or allow it to cross meandering Seven Wells River upstream. Local wildlife including monkeys, birds, and various insects can be spotted on the way. Listen to the noisy cicadas from the green canopy overhead while on your ride.
End your ride with a ‘thank-the-elephant’ feed basket activity where you get to feed the elephant with its wholesome diet. It is a delightful bonding moment between you and your elephant. Most of the elephants have been rehabilitated to the national ecological parks; therefore, the service providers to this activity are few.
The government zoos and elephant rehabilitators offer limited subsidized programs to tourists, keeping in mind that no animal is harmed in the process.

Langkawi Elephant Adventures says elephant under its care not neglected
Langkawi Elephant Adventures (LEA)
ALOR STAR: Langkawi Elephant Adventures (LEA) strongly refuted the claim that the 35-year-old bull elephant under its care was being subjected to abuse and punishment.
Its owner Jason Loh cleared the air that the mammals was instead being treated for the chronic pressure sores which it had suffered before being taken into the company’s care in 1998.
He clarified that sleeping on the ground has apparently prevented the sores from healing and in turn causing rupture and infection.
He recounted that in 2009, Lasah’s sores improved significantly following the treatment received from an experienced veterinarian.
Nevertheless, he said the mammal’s facial skin would rupture and the sores recur from time to time.
LEA became more concerned when Lasah’s sore turned septic in December 2015 which left them with no choice but scheduling and instituting a process.
“We have been transparent with two investigative committees, headed by the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry as well as Malaysian Zoological Association of Parks and Aquaria.
“Both were fully briefed on Lasah’s medical history and on the considerations that led to the employment of the controversial methodology.
“With great concern for the elephant’s welfare, however, we ensured that the procedure was only applied only when required and on a strict on-off schedule,” he said in a press release.
As the result, Jason said not only that Lasah showed a significant healing process but the methodology also allowed its facial skin to thicken against future recurrence.
Pointing out that it has taken almost two decades but the entire LEA team have finally managed to reversed Lasah’s long term ailment.
He stressed that after all the efforts taken for the sake of the elephant, to have had a campaign launched against the company was plain ironic.
Upset that images of all Lasah’s four legs being chained while undergoing treatment have been captioned to mislead many into believing that Lasah was abused at the facility, he welcomed public to contact LEA for further clarification.
Previously, LEA had dismissed the allegation made by non-governmental organisations, Friends of Orang Utan and Nature Alert that the mammal was being chained and abused for long hours was an exaggerated slander.
Foto and Nature Alert had, in an article carried by a news portal, claimed that the elephant had endured a life of exploitation and abuse after being made one of Langkawi’s tourist attractions for over a decade.
Two days ago, French animal activist Brigitte Bardot has urged Putrajaya to let the wild-born Malaysian elephant to be released to Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary.
The retired actress and singer Bardot said this in a letter submitted to Natural Resources and Environment Datuk minister Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar. ~ Elephant Ride Langkawi
